چکیده

Quality is the hallmark of a competitive product. It is necessary to use inspection stations to check product quality and process performance. In this paper, we are concerned with the problem of location of inspection stations in a multistage manufacturing system. We present two stochastic search algorithms for solving this problem, one based on Simulated Annealing and the other on Genetic Algorithms. These algorithms are developed to determine the location of inspection stations resulting in a minimum expected total cost in a multistage manufacturing system. The total cost includes inspection, processing and scrapping cost at each stage of the production process. A penalty cost is also included in it to account for a defective item which is not detected by the inspection scheme. A set of test examples are solved using these algorithms. We also compare performance of these two algorithms.

Solving a Stochastic Cellular Manufacturing Model by Using Genetic Algorithms

This paper presents a mathematical model for designing cellular manufacturing systems (CMSs) solved by genetic algorithms. This model assumes a dynamic production, a stochastic demand, routing flexibility, and machine flexibility. CMS is an application of group technology (GT) for clustering parts and machines by means of their operational and / or apparent form similarity in different aspects ...

Simulation-based optimisation of inspection stations allocation in multi-product manufacturing systems

In this paper a multi-product production systems (MPPS) with in-line quality control is examined. The problem of determining the optimal inspection strategy that results in lowest total inspection cost, while assuring required outgoing quality level is modelled discrete-event simulation is used to model the production system. The optimal allocation is determined by using a tabu search algorithm.

Control and Cybernetics Multi-criteria Approach to Comparison of Inspection Allocation for Multi-product Manufacturing Systems in Make-to-order Sector *

Abstract: This paper studies multi-product production manufacturing systems with in-line quality control. Quality control is carried at inspection stations located within a production line. Quality control has an impact on performance of the system: throughput decreases and resource utilization increases. Production lines are modeled as a multi-product Open Jackson Network, where stochastic cha...

Behavioral study of piston manufacturing plant through stochastic models

Piston plays a vital role in almost all types of vehicles. The present study discusses the behavioral study of a piston manufacturing plant. Manufacturing plants are complex repairable systems and therefore, it is difficult to evaluate the performance of a piston manufacturing plant using stochastic models. The stochastic model is an efficient performance evaluator for repairable systems. In...

Automatic Detection and Localization of Surface Cracks in Continuously Cast Hot Steel Slabs Using Digital Image Analysis Techniques

Quality inspection is an indispensable part of modern industrial manufacturing. Steel as a major industry requires constant surveillance and supervision through its various stages of production. Continuous casting is a critical step in the steel manufacturing process in which molten steel is solidified into a semi-finished product called slab. Once the slab is released from the casting unit, th...
